What are AYSO’s Schoolyard and Playground Programs?
These programs are specifically designed for our youngest players where children learn soccer skills like kicking, dribbling, passing and shooting in a non-competitive format. They are designed to introduce players to the game of soccer, in a fun and safe environment, without the pressure to win.
What differences should I know exist for the Spring Season?
We will not be providing post-game snack bags, medals or pictures for the Spring 2026 season. Sessions for 4U and 5U will continue to take place on Saturdays while our Core Program for 6U-16U will take place on Sundays.
Who is it for?
For Fall 2025/Spring 2026, the Playground program (U4) will be catered to children who are born in 2022.
For Fall 2025/Spring 2026, the Schoolyard program (U5) will be catered to children who are born in 2021.
How does it work?
-There are no weekday practices. Sessions will be held on Saturdays only.
-There are no set teams. Parents should check-in 15 minutes before start time with the Coaches on the field. Sessions will be conducted by trainers with the support of volunteer coaches.
-Sessions will be 25 minutes of drills, then 25 minutes of scrimmage (Pennies will be provided to differentiate teams)
-Children will get water breaks throughout the session.
-All kids will be the same number and color (Boys are Blue and Girls are Pink)
When will it take place?
The program will meet in Spring on Saturdays from March- May. Session times will be finalized after enrollment but have typically been at 9 and 11.
Where will it be held?
The location for Spring 2026 is TBD and depends on what fields we are allotted for the season. It has historically been:
Horizon Park in East Chula Vista (next to Hedenkamp Elementary)
970 East Palomar Street
Chula Vista, CA 91913
What will I need to provide my player?
We ask that players come with water, a size 3 soccer ball and shin guards- cleats are optional.
How can I help?
We are looking for Assistant Coach Support at each game and welcome anyone who is a cleared volunteer to support.
Who can I talk to if I have more questions?
The Division Coordinator contact information can be found here.
