4U PLAYGROUND/5U SCHOOLYARD PROGRAM INFORMATION

What are AYSO’s Schoolyard and Playground Programs?
These programs are specifically designed for our youngest players where children learn soccer skills like kicking, dribbling, passing and shooting in a non-competitive format. They are designed to introduce players to the game of soccer, in a fun and safe environment, without the pressure to win. 

Who is it for?
These programs are currently only offered in the Fall Season. 
-For Fall 2025, t
he Playground program (U4) will be catered to children who are born in 2022. 
-For Fall 2025, t
he Schoolyard program (U5) will be catered to children who are born in 2021.

How does it work?

There are no weekday practices. Sessions will be held on Saturdays only. You can choose and show up to the session that best fits your schedule.

There are no set teams. Parents should check-in 15 minutes before start time with the Coaches on the field. Sessions will be conducted by trainers with the support of volunteer coaches.

Sessions will be 25 minutes of drills, then 25 minutes of scrimmage (Pennies will be provided to differentiate teams)

Children will get water breaks throughout the session. All players get a snack bag the region provides as they come off the field.

When will it take place?

This program will meet the following Saturdays for the Fall 2025 Season:
August 16
August 23
September 6
September 13
September 20
October 4
October 11
October 18
October 25
November 1
November 8
November 15

The program will meet at the following times:
9AM: Schoolyard Session (5U) 
10AM: Playground Session (4U ONLY)
11AM: Schoolyard Session (5U)

You can choose and show up to the session that best fits your schedule but please know that the 9 AM and 11 AM session are targeted for the 5U Schoolyard Program. 

Where will it be held?
All sessions will be held at Horizon Park in East Chula Vista (next to Hedenkamp Elementary)

What will I need to provide my player?  
We ask that players come with water, a size 3 soccer ball and shin guards- cleats are optional. 

When will I get my player's uniform?
We held a distribution on Wednesday, August 6th. If you did not attend this distribution, you will be able to get your uniform on the first day we are meeting- Saturday, August 16th (8:30- 10:30am) @ Horizon Park

How can I help?
We are looking for Assistant Coach Support at each game and welcome anyone who is a cleared volunteer to support.

What is the cost?

Region 116 Registration Fee: $130 (fee covers uniform of jersey, shorts and socks, pictures)

AYSO National Fee $25 (covers the Fall 2025/Spring 2026 season, includes player insurance)

Service Fee: $3.50
-
Late Fee: added to Registrations processed after July 15th, 2025 - $20
Total is $178.50 

Sibling Discount (when registering with an additional sibling registered, if applicable) - $30 discount
