Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Frequently Asked Questions:  Information you need to know.

What is included in the player registration fee?

The registration fee includes the uniform, team and individual pictures, SAI supplementary insurance and participation in the fall season.

When will my child’s coach contact us?

Depending upon the coach’s availability, players will normally be contacted in early August and a team meeting will be scheduled with further instructions.

When will team practice begin?

Practice may begin on or after August 1.  Since fields are in short supply, each coach must obtain a field permit from Region 116 to use assigned city and school district fields for practice.  Your child's coach will contact you.

It is now the middle of August and a coach has not contacted me. What should I do?

Contact the Division Rep for your child’s age group.  Click on the Board Members tab to locate your child’s division rep.

I would like my child to be on a particular coach’s team again or be on a team with a friend or relative. Is this possible?

“Balanced Teams” is one of AYSO’s six philosophies. In divisions U6. U7 and U8, teams are formed based on where the players live or attend school so it is possible to be together but not guaranteed.  Let us know at registration and we can make a note for the division rep.  In divisions U10 – U19, special requests upset team balancing and therefore are not considered.

I need practices to be on Monday and Wednesday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm?

All of our coaches are volunteers and since they are giving their time and effort, they are the ones who choose practice days, times and locations. The only way to ensure a “special” day or time is to volunteer to coach your child’s team.  The league goes to extraordinary lengths to balance teams.  Your child will not be assigned to another team based solely on the location, day or times of the other team’s practices.

My child has decided not to play soccer? How do I receive a refund?

Please see the Refund Policy of the Parent Handbook under the Forms section.

How long is the soccer season?

Practice may begin on August 1. The first game is the first Saturday after Labor Day and the last game is the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Teams that advance to post season play (U10 – U14, including All-Stars) may be playing until March.

I would like to coach my child’s team but I really don’t know anything about soccer or coaching. Should I still volunteer?

YES!! AYSO provides training for all new and returning coaches. We have an experienced coaching staff that is here to assist all coaches. Everyone was once a new volunteer, and without volunteers we cannot have a program that will be the best possible for our children

My child has never played before. Will he/she play as much as those who played last year?

AYSO mandates that everyone should play at least half of every game. In divisions U6 – U8, it is recommended that no player may play a fourth quarter until every player has played three quarters.

Can I bring our family dog to practice or games?

AYSO and the school districts do not allow pets of any kind (except service dog which is a dog specifically trained to perform work for a person with a disability) to be at the fields during practice or games.  Smoking is also prohibited at any soccer fields.

My team needs volunteer referees but I don't know that much about the game.  Can I still help my child's team?

Yes - There are two ways that you can help your child's team meet their volunteer referee commitments.

1) Take the referee training.  You will be given comprehensive training in all aspects of the game.  There is no better way to increase your enjoyment of the game than to learn its rules.  If you are still not comfortable with your abilities, you will be assigned to U6 and U8 games.  Those games do not keep standings or scores, so they are a bit less competitive.

2) Volunteer as a Division Referee Coordinator (referee scheduler).  You will help schedule referees for games throughout the season.  You sole responsibility will be to make phone calls and coordinate with the Director of Referee Scheduling.  You earn volunteer referee points for each week you schedule referees for your division's games.
